Reggae Sumfest 2016 Will Be Different!
By Jacob Narley, Entertainment Reporter
Reggae Sumfest 2016 will be different! Themed ‘Our Music, Our Festival’, the focus will be on Roots, Rock and Reggae Artistes only. Live entertainment will be scaled down to two nights – Dancehall Night on Friday, July 22 and Reggae Night on Saturday, July 23. These main events will be preceded by a number of parties/sessions starting on Sunday, July 17, building momentum toward the weekend climax.
This new format that eliminates emphasis on
international Hip Hop artistes is the brainchild of Josef Bogdanovich, CEO of DownSound Records. His innovative team earlier this year acquired the Reggae Sumfest brand from founders Johnny Gourzong, Robert Russell and Tina Davis.
Also of note is the determination to capitalize on available technology to increase global reach. Reggae Sumfest 2016 for the first time will be streamed in interactive 360 Virtual Reality a game changer according to Bogdanovich.
The weekend dates for the main events open opportunities for South Floridians who desire to catch top artistes in action. With proper planning it will be much easier to head to Jamaica on Friday afternoon (after work) and return on Sunday, without losing too much (if any) time at work.
Artistes slated to perform on Dancehall Night: Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Popcaan, I-Octane, Agent Sasco, Dexta Daps, Romain Virgo, Nesbeth, Spice, Ding Dong, Ishawna, Chi Ching Ching, Tanto Blacks, Charly Black, Ryme Minista, Harry Toddler, Masicka, Vershon, Devin Di Dakta, Jahmiel, Don Andre, Teejay, Savage, Ricky Teetz, Dre Zee.
Artistes slated to perform on Reggae Night: Super Cat, Barrington Levy, Luciano, Sanchez, Tarrus Riley, Busy Signal, Christopher Martin, Nature, D-Medz, Nicky Silk, Dann I.
