Pulse’s Caribbean Fashion Week 2014 – a Scintillating Success
By Michael Barnett, Senior Entertainment Reporter
Pulse, Jamaica’s undisputed fashion powerhouse, has continued to grow from strength to strength with its yearly installment of “Caribbean Fashion Week” in the month of June. The 2014 installment of “Caribbean Fashion Week,” which was held at Jamaica’s National Indoor Arena, succeeded in reinforcing Pulse’s standing as a fashion giant and power-broker not only in Jamaica, but in the Caribbean. Kudos to Kinsley Cooper, Safia Cooper and the rest of the team for programming a truly enthralling fashion fest, from Friday, June 13 till Sunday, June 15.
Yours truly attended the fashion week finale on Sunday, June 15, and was treated to an entertainment package that featured top fashion designers such as Mutamba (Jackie Cohen), and Cedella Marley, who paid homage to her father with her strong fashion collection.
In my opinion however, it was the designs of the Mutamba fashion house, (courtesy of Jackie Cohen), that really caught my eye. Jackie’s designs are breath-taking in their originality and are emblematic of the creative energies of Jackie and het partner, Mutabaruka. On the basis of the designs that Jackie displayed on Sunday, June 15, 2014, I am wondering, (out aloud), how she could conceivably top this highly creative and captivating collection.
The night was capped off with a memorable and highly enigmatic performance by the seasoned performer, Maxi Priest. To his credit Maxi has never disappointed me yet with his performances, and has proved himself to be one of the true professionals in the Reggae industry.
Pulse’s 2014 Caribbean Fashion Week succeeded in cementing this annual extravaganza as Jamaica’s premier fashion event in my opinion. It is undoubtedly one of those events that Jamaicans, the Jamaican Diaspora, as well as the Caribbean Diaspora in general, need to mark down in their calendars.
Look out for Pulse’s 2015 Caribbean Fashion Week coming your way in June 2015.
